The TYT connector is completely opposite the leg pin is to the other side, and the bar pin is opposite. If you look closely at the "T" connectors, you'll see the male pin is offset to one side on the leg of the 'T' and offset towards the top on the bar of the 'T'. I suppose it's all a marketing thing because you release a new radio with less features than a competitor, even if they're ones that nobody ever uses. This is about as useless a feature as I can imagine on a radio, and I'd just as soon they put the effort into improving the UI or something more useful. All three radios support an "alarm" feature, where if you pull a plug out of the alarm jack, it will start transmitting. This functionality is not present on the TH which, actually, is one of the only things I personally find really lacking. The DRT also has a nice feature in that if you press the 'Func' key on a memory with the alpha tag, it will show the actual numeric value for 5 seconds.

This has to be done through the software package. It also looks like the TH supports separate transmit and receive PL frequencies, although I have not tested this. Once nice thing over both the other radios is that the TH has moved into the '90's, and uses an RJ connector instead of the 8-pin round connector. I suspect the Alinco is the original, and the other two companies bought or cloned the glass. It's interesting to note that the displays in all three radios are nearly identical. There is a lot more functionality is supported on the microphone of this radio than the JTM or the DRTbut the keys don't act as you expect, and they're probably not worth bothering with. In spite of what appears to be some limitations in the usability, I still like it better than then JTM Of course, a crystal controlled rig would be an improvement over that radio.

The radio's user interface is awkward you'll definitely want to use the PC programming software to manage this note that the current version does not allow setting the display color, and will revert it to blue after each programming. You'll need a cheat-sheet for the F F5 keys, since they're labeled F1 through F5 and since they're programmable, you'll need some way to remember what functions if you've re-assigned them. The audio is somewhat compressed according to on-the-air reports, but not objectionable. My basic impression of the radio is that it has a good, solid feel. STAY away from these radios they are a huge was of time and completely frustrating! DO not waste your time, because that's what I'm doing right now and not very happy after I spent time and money to get on I've had it 2 days and spent oh 10 hours of nothing but frustration on it.I've had this radio for a couple weeks now, and have been quite pleased with it. So now it isn't programmable it's stuck with a minus offset yet won't transit the - offset, it won't restore it's self because the instruction are wrong.

I then had to download a photo copy of the English instructions which are as useless as the Chinese. I not jumping through the TYT loops to get it fixed, just not worth it. Spend the bucks for another Good radio but lasted less then a year and locked up. Pot in a headphone jack so now using headphones to under stand everyone. Tried 4 differant speakers all sounded like crap. So needs an external speaker only and has crappy audio. I emailed the company with the question why never got any answers. I used an external speaker on 3 of these radios andwhen i unpluged them all internal speakers didnt work.

After changing the direction to plus the TX offset actually goes minus and I documented this with a video but I do not know where on the internet I can download it to so other hams can see it. Later i found out that the controller TX direction electronics must be wired up backwards. I got so frustrated i nearly sent it to the crusher. When you setup a minus TX offset it actually transmits plus. The control head electronics is bozo bizzare. This radio is pure garbage and wasted parts. I decided to pick one up for a good price NIB never used so i could experiment with it - Big Mistake! The site will be something of which everyone involved can be proud to say they were a part.
